
Places to Avoid In Hawaii Nei
The natural beauty of the Hawaiian Islands is legendary. Ancient Hawaiians worshiped the islands as a giver of life and a protector of souls. Today many island visitors come to Hawaii to enjoy the beaches, the mountains and the oceans. Some respect the islands for what they have to offer and others often overlook the cautions that result in hospitalization, rescue teams or even death.
Although Hawaii has many places that are beautiful beyond belief and welcome all who want to celebrate nature, there are places that many should to avoid or at least take utmost cautions when visiting to avoid injury.
Sacred Falls
Located along the windward side of Oahu,KaliuwaaFallsis one of the most beautiful waterfalls on the island. The falls are located in the back of a very narrow ravine. At the end, the waterfall plunges down into the ravine and continues along as Kaluanui stream. It has been closed since 1999 because of unstable rocks above the ravine that are too difficult to stabilize. Entrance to the area is restricted until further notice.
Haiku Stairs
Located on the windward side of Oahu, the Haiku Stairs is a steep ridge trail that is a combination of hiking and climbing to the top of the Koolau Mountains. The series of 3922 stairs in not maintained is not legally accessible because it is impossible to access the stairway without trespassing on private property.
Kipu Falls
Located in Puhi on the island of Kauai, this swimming hole and waterfall is located on private property. There have been five deaths at the falls mostly due to submerged rocks and shallow water.
Stay on Trails
Many get into trouble when they wander off established hiking trails inHawaii. Every summer many have to remain on rocky ledges overnight while awaiting rescue. The situations are usually due to hikers not using caution and not staying on trails.
