Aqua Island Colony – Waikiki
Not many know that this Hawaii vacation hotel is one of the tallest buildings in the Hawaiian Islands. It is located along the Ala Wai Canal just two blocks from bustling Kalakaua Avenue and three blocks to action-packed Waikiki Beach. This Oahu holiday hotel offers moderate prices and comfortable accommodations. All rates allow for children 17 and under to stay free with parents using existing bedding. The higher floors offer the best rooms which offer a quieter setting along with sweeping views of Diamond Head, the Koolau Mountains and the Pacific Ocean.
The island décor is done in pale and neutral with splashes of bold colors. The furnishings are simple in classic white rattan. Guest rooms allow a maximum of four guests and have two double beds. Suites allow a maximum of five guests and have one queen and two twin day beds. Accommodations are roomy and offer great functionality especially for families who need access to cooking facilities.
Although this Hawaii hotel lacks a restaurant, there are many choices within easy walking distance. Kuhio Avenue, the second busiest street in the resort area is just a few steps away. Shopping is also just down the street at the Royal Hawaiian Shopping Center, or the more quaint International Marketplace. Waikiki Beach has some of the best swimming in the islands with gorgeous protected white sandy shores and clear calm tropical water. “TheBus” stop is located outside the lobby along Kuhio Avenue. Buses pass every 5-7 minutes with service to Ala Moana Center, area resorts, other parts of Waikiki and transfers island-wide for a nominal fare.
The building is mutli-use with privately owned condominiums along with hotels rooms. The few elevators are always busy especially during check-out time and not a good choice for the those sensitive to heights.
